Chapter 62 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure contains the rules for the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program. This law requires that all adult and juvenile sex offenders register with the local law enforcement authorities of the city in which they live, or, if they do not live within a city's limits, with the local law enforcement authorities of the county in which they live. The registration process requires that the offender provide certain information to law enforcement authorities for the purposes of keeping the registry updated. This information include the following:

• Name and address of the offender
• The offender's date of birth, sex, race, weight, height, eye color, hair color, driver's license number, shoe size, and any home, cell, or work phone number
• The type of the offense of which he or she was convicted, the date of the conviction, the punishment received for the conviction, and the age of the victim
• Information about whether the offender has been discharged, is on parole, is on probation, has been placed on community supervision, or placed on mandatory supervision, or released on juvenile probation
• Color photograph
• The offense of which the offender was convicted or adjudicated
• Each business, occupational, or professional license, certification, or permit issued by a licensing authority and held by that person
• Place of employment, vocation, or school that offender will be attending

Offenders are required to periodically check in with law enforcement authorities and ensure that their registry information is correct. They also are required to report any changes in their registry information. If they fail to do so, they can be subject to a felony prosecution. The public is entitled to access all of this information about sex offenders through the online registry or by contacting local law enforcement authorities.
