Richmond Man Arrested on Child Porn Charges

ABC 13 Eyewitness News is reporting that authorities have arrested a 56-year-old Steve Trudell of Richmond, Texas, on charges of possessing and promoting child pornography. Investigators allege that Trudell went online and offered to share pictures and video clips of child pornography. Trudell remains in the Ft. Bend County Jail on two separate bonds: $30,000 for the child pornography charge and $10,000 for the possession charge.

Possession of child pornography is a third degree felony under Texas law. A third degree felony carries penalties that may include a prison sentence ranging from two to 20 years and a fine of up to $10,000. While possession of child pornography can involve computer or online images, it also can involve photographs or videos. On the other hand, promoting child pornography is a more serious offense with even harsher penalties. Promotion of child pornography occurs when an individual allows images or videos to be shared online from his or her computer. This criminal offense also can involve manufacturing and distributing child pornography; it is second degree felony under Texas law.

The penalties for a child pornography conviction are very serious, and can result in the complete destruction of your reputation, your career, and your family. You may be required to register as a sex offender, a status that will follow you for the rest of your life. When you are facing such severe charges that involve allegations of activity on the Internet, you must enlist the help of a Texas criminal defense law firm who has the technological and legal knowledge and skills to investigate the facts of your case and build a strong defense.
