The former husband of Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who played the daughter of mobster Tony Soprano on the acclaimed HBO television series, “The Sopranos,” has been indicted on 11 counts of securities fraud, wire fraud and conspiracy in a $300 million “pump and dump” stock manipulation scheme.
Abraxas “A.J.” Discala, 44, CEO of OmniView Capital Advisors, has been charged with six other defendants of fraudulently inflating the prices of certain penny stocks and then selling them to investors and keeping the profits. Sigler has not been charged and is not accused of any wrongdoing in the matter.
New York federal prosecutors allege that the “pump and dump” scheme took place from October 2012 until July 2014 and involved trades of four public companies. The government's complaint alleges that the defendants artificially boosted the stocks' market valuations to approximately $300 million and caused investor losses of an estimated $50 million on one stock alone, CodeSmart Holdings Inc.
Those also charged in the alleged scheme include the CEO of New York-based Halcyon Cabot Partners Ltd., Michael Morris of Merrick, NY; attorney Darren Ofsink, also of Merrick, NY; and broker Darren Goodrich of Manhattan Beach, CA. Discala is the only defendant who has been charged on all 11 counts.
Since the alleged scheme was made public in July 2014, a total of 10 defendants have been charged. Three have pleaded guilty. In addition, the SEC is pursuing related civil charges against some of the defendants as well as others who have not been charged in the criminal case.
Discala's attorney said, “The new indictment does nothing to change the fact that AJ Discala is a completely innocent man. We look forward to demonstrating this in court.”
